Without a doubt, San Francisco has some of the most beautiful architecture in the United States. One of my favorite places to shoot weddings is the stunning City Hall. Wedding after wedding, there is never enough time to capture how beautiful that building is. In this historic Civic Center there are a collection of municipal and arts buildings. One of these is the Veteran’s War Memorial Building and a special upstairs part called The Green Room.
This space allows weddings in July and August during the off-season of the San Francisco Opera. The striking teal walls and ornate gold molding make this spot unmistakably unique. They have a small bridal suite and a private grand balcony with breathtaking views of City Hall.
Derek and Katy reached out to me to capture their wedding day at this special venue. Since their last name is Green it may come as no surprise that they nicknamed their day “the Green Wedding”. I met Katy in the bridal suite as she was sipping champagne and getting some of her last pieces together before the afternoon ceremony.
Their ceremony included some catholic traditions and they wrote their own vows to one another. Cocktail hour took place on the balcony and we did bridal party photos on the nearby lawn. The bridesmaids were all in yellow with hues of the same color, white and green in their bouquets. Derek and Katy and I did some portraits around the square and on the steps of the building. Photographing big, beautiful spaces like this are the most fun.
